Target Rifle
TR (also known as Bisley or Fullbore shooting) is shot on outdoor rifle ranges, at round bull targets at distances from 300 to 900m (or 300 to 1000 yds), from the prone position, using single shot precision rifles with adjustable aperture iron sights. Calibers permitted are .308Win and .223Rem.
F-Class Discipline
F-Class shooting is the newest discipline of target shooting that presents a challenge to even the best and most experienced shooter at long range. F-Class is shot at distances from 300m up to 900m (1000 yards). What is F-Class? The "F" derived from a surname, George Farquharson, a Canadian who loved shooting. He invented F-Class to enable him to continue competing at an elderly age. He used a scope in lieu of his iron sights and replaced the sling with a front rest. F-Class is shot from the prone position and shooters lay on the ground on a mat. Recognition as an official discipline started in the late 90’s. With modern technology the discipline took off world wide. As the sport grew internationally it was officially accepted by SABU and all Governing Bodies in South Africa. F-Class has thousand of shooters globally and is the fastest growing shooting discipline. There are two variances, F-Open and F-TR, both recognized and accepted in South Africa. In the F-Open discipline a shooter is allowed to shoot with any caliber up to 8mm diameter, have a rifle of maximum 10kg’s and shoots over a rear bag and tri-pod front rest. In the F-TR discipline a shooter is allowed to shoot with either .223 Rem or .308 Win standard calibers or both. No weight limit on bullets but 8.25kg on rifle only, weighing the rifle together with an attached bi-pod. Targets: F-Class shooters shoot on targets that are half the size of these used by the known Bisley iron sight shooters. Shooters of all ages compete in this discipline. Father and son participation is common and we have female shooters as well. World Championships: The FCWC is held every four years. The first World Championship was held in Canada in 2002. The second World Championship was held during 2005, in South Africa which the South Africans have won. The third World Championship was held in England in 2009. The USA will be hosting the next in 2013. Shooters which are serious with lots of skill reach the top level and wear the national Protea Blazer.
